Memories of primary school days

Dashing through the gates
Only ten seconds to seven
Jumping up the stairs
Sprinting towards the hall
Seating down at my seat
"Ding Dong..."

Entering the class after flag raising
Chattering sounds all around
Upon seeing the teacher approaching
Silence took over the class
Taking out books and pretending to read
Praising us for being quiet

Hearing the ringing of the recess bell
Only a second, the class is deserted
Dashing towards the canteen
Joking and eating with friends
Playing ball games with each other
Increasing the bond between each other

Moments before recess ends, everyone is back
Everyone is sweaty and smelly
Teacher entering with a disgusted face
Dreadful lessons goes on
Finally, school ends
Students went out with friends to have fun

Everyone shiver upon realising that PSLE is coming
Teachers write down the days left to PSLE
Causing us to be nervous and afraid
Students started working hard hoping to score well
More and more revision papers would be given to us
Everyone was stressed and started burning midnight oil

Finally, PSLE was over
Everyone went mad and had lots of fun
Sadly, results were released a month later, ending our good times
Some were smiling and some were frowning when they got their results
Knowing who get good results is not hard
You could just look at their facial expression to know

We organised one final class gathering
Having lots of fun together for the last time
Bidding farewell to each other after the gathering
Wishing each other the best before leaving
These momories of the primary school days are great
Causing us to smile when recalling the primary school days

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE

A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

1. How is figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language.

The symbolism of red, red rose and the melody represents his love to a person. The poet wrote that he will love the person until the sea is gang dry and the rocks melt hence, it shows how deep the poet is in love with the person as it is quite impossible for the sea to be dry and the rocks being melted. The poet chose to use this figurative language to express how deeply he is in love with the person.

2. Tell us why you like this poem in no less than 100 words.

I like this poem because I find that the poet had used an interesting way to express his love to someone. It is touching as the poet had used some words to express how deeply he is in love with a person. It has lots of meaning behind these words and you need to think through carefully to be able to find out the hidden meanings. With all these reasons, I decided to choose this poem.

Musical/Rhythmic

I chose this song called " Bella's Lullaby " because this song sounded sad and touching. At some part, the song became louder. It represents that there are some part in Village by the Sea that the protagonists are faced with difficulties and when the protagonists are faced with some tough decisions that needed to be made. At the end, the music gets softer and it represents that there were no more difficulties and the protagonists led a happy life.

Spatial/Visual

There are four pictures above. ( drawn by me ) =P

The first picture shows Hari's father being drunk.
The second picture shows Hari's mother being sick and thus lying down on the bed.
The third picutre shows Pinto being poisoned to death.
The fourth picture shows Hari leaving Thul to Bombay.

Spatial/Visual

The four pictures on top describe the effects of toddy.(drawn by me)=P.

The first picture shows that alcohols are not cheap and one would spend lots of money on alcohol and would be addicted to it. One example is Hari's father. He is addicted to alcohol and drinks it everyday. He had spent away his family's saving and even owed debts.

The second picture shows that alcohols are bad for health as they can cause headaches and dizziness. Immediate effects of a large amount of alcohol include slurred speech, disturbed sleep, nausea, and vomiting. Long-term effects of consuming large quantities of alcohol, especially when combined with poor nutrition, can lead to permanent damage to vital organs such as the brain and liver.

The third picture shows that drinking alcohol can lead to violence. One would not know what they are doing and would lose control of themselves and can also beat up family members unintentionally. One example is Hari's father. After drinking toddy, he would be violent, causing his family members to be afraid him.

The fourth picture shows that one can lose their job due to alcohol. One's body would reek of alcohol and this smell would usually come the day after a night out of drinking a lot. Because of alcohol, they also might not be sober during work and thus not able to concentrate.

With all this reasons, I suggest people to stop drinking alcohol as it does not have much advantages but have many disadvantages.
