T3 Blog Prompt #10
IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn was recently arrested on rape charges, and many people in the media judged him guilty even before the case got to trial. I feel that it is not fair for him that people in the media judged him guilty even before the case got to trail. It is because he might be wrongfully accused and also and the media are in no position to judge him. However, as Strauss-Kahn is a powerful man, he should not be doing things that arouse the people's suspicions.
Firstly, Dominique Strauss-Kahn might be wrongfully accused. The victim might not be telling the truth but wanted to ruin Strauss-Kahn's reputation or she might want money. The Time magazine stated that" The Manhattan district attorney's office was reported to have new information that undermined the accuser's credibility, including evidence that not long after the alleged assault, she called a boyfriend in an immigration jail in Arizona and told him, in words roughly translated from her native Fulani language, "Don't worry, this guy has a lot of money. I know what I'm doing."". This shows that the victim might be lying and accused Strauss-Kahn only for money. Hence, it is not fair that many people in the media judged him guilty even before the case got to trial as he might be wrongfully accused.
Secondly, people in the media are in no position to judge Dominique Strauss-Kahn. He can only be judged in court as the court is fair and would not judge anyone guilty without any concrete evidence. In court, he is given a right to defend himself and prove himself innocent while in the media, he is not given a proper chance to explain himself. This might cause him to be wrongfully accused by the people in the media as they might judge him based on the little knowledge they have about this case. Hence, I feel that it is not fair that many people in the media judged him guilty even before the case got to trial.
However, Dominique Strauss-Kahn is a powerful man hence he should not be doing things that arouse the people's suspicions. His reputation would be badly affected if there were such scandals about him. Since he is the IMF director, he should set a good example for others if not he does not deserve that appointment. He should be careful and avoid things that would create scandals about him. There would be certainly be scandals about him as he is an important man and if there is evidence against him. Hence, I feel that he should be more careful in the future and that it is not fair as he was judged guilty by many people in the media even before the case got to trial.
In conclusion, I feel that it is not fair that many people in the media judged Dominique Strauss-Kahn guilty even before the case got to trial as he might be wrongfully accused and the people in the media are in no position to judge him guilty as they do not have evidences to prove it.
