The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

This story is about a boy named Nobody Owens living in the graveyard. His family was murdered by a man named Jack but Nobody was lucky as he crawled out of his house and went to the graveyard. The graveyard folks had been protecting him since then and he had parents called,Mr and Mrs Owens, and also a guardian named Silas who also took care of him. In the graveyard, he made many friends like Liza Hempstock the witch and Miss Lupescu who took care of him when Silas was away. There is also a girl he liked named Scarlett Perkins. In the graveyard, Nobody learnt many skills like Fade,Fear,Terror and Dreamwalk which had been very useful in his life. Nobody once entered the ghoul-gate and went to ghoul city called Ghulheim but luckily the Night-Gaunts and Miss Lupescu saved him from the ghouls. Nobody went to school for a while but soon he stopped going because Silas was worried the man named Jack would find him and kill him because Nobody had became the talk of the school. Soon, the man named Jack who faked his name as Jay Frost lied to Scarlett that he can help Nobody Owens find the murderer and tricked Scarlett into bringing Nobody Owens to him. A while later more man named Jack came and were chasing after Nobody, wanting to kill him. Nobody then learnt why Jacks want him dead. It is because a long time ago, one of the Jacks, back in Egypt in the pyramid days, foresaw that one day, there would be a child born who was Nobody Owens, who would walk the borderland between the living and the dead and that if Nobody grew to adulthood, it would mean the end of the Jacks order and all they stand for. Luckily with the help of the graveyard folks, he managed to survive after making three man named Jack fall into the ghoul-gate and one man named Jack tumble down into a old grave, all of twenty feet, before crash-landing on Mr. Carstairs's coffin, splintering the coffin-lid and his ankle at the same time. Then Nobody went to find Jack Frost, who was trying to kill Scarlett as he did not want to have any witnesses. But luckily, Nobody said Jack would want to be the Sleer's master and so Jack Frost was being forced through the wall, pulled into the rock, was being swallowed up by the Sleer. Scarlett then thought that Nobody used her as a bait and said he was a monster. Nobody was very sad after hearing that. Silas came back right on time and brought her back to her home and then erased her memory and then Scarlett and her mother decided to return to Glasgow. Nobody then asked about what the Jacks had said, saying about they have trouble in Krakow and Melbourne and Vancouver, and if that was Silas. Silas said that it was not only him but there was Miss Lupescu and other member. Nobody then found out that Miss Lupescu died in the battle after trying to protect Nobody and other people. When Nobody was about fifteen years old, sometimes he could no longer see the dead. Silas told him it was time for him to leave the graveyard as he was old enough to guard himself. Silas also said that Nobody need to live and not stay in the graveyard. Nobody told Silas that if Silas was in trouble, Silas could send for him. Silas then gave Nobody a leather suitcase with his possessions in it like his passport and also gave Nobody his wallet with some money in it. Nobody then said he want to see life, want to hold it in his hands, want to leave a footprint on the sand of a desert island, want to play football with people and then he paused a while and said he want everything. Then he bid farewell to Silas, Mrs Owens and the other graveyard folks before walking towards the city.

I find this book very interesting. Nobody is very brave, adventurous and clever. The book had kept me in suspense, made me feel like reading on. The story is very magical and sometimes it is quite funny. This is one of the best book I read so far.
