Why I chose this ending for the "The Lady Or The Tiger"

I chose to end this story this way because I felt that the man could have a virtuous wife unlike the princess who is selfish and cold-hearted. She had been with him for many months and yet she wanted him dead. Since she could not be with him, she did not want anyone else too.
