Figurative Language for IN-CLASS ONLINE LESSON #4

Passage C : from Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

The figurative language in passage C is personification. The examples are " Bleached by the ocean and the rain", " worn by storms", "battered by incoming waves", " let the lantern lead her"and " The sphere of light cast by the flame only traveled a few feet."

Passage D : from Distances by Vandana Singh

The figurative language in passage D is metaphor and personification The examples of metaphor is " a two-d floor like a little desert roll-bug" and the examples of personification are " bone-dry City, the desertscape" and " empty, waterless sky"




The mood of "Boneshaker" is solemn. This can be shown by " Night had settled down hard and wet" and " coal-black extra-night of the tube's interior".
The mood of "Distances" is mysterious. This can be shown by " The narrow stone passageways seemed to press in closer" and "cold stone walls".
